Positive Habits Post Quarantine

Wow! How things have changed. March was one for the history books. This “new normal” has forced us to make lifestyle changes and adapt our surroundings. We have had to shift our schedules, combine home-life and work-life, cook more, spend more time together, and engage on a completely different scale. The adjustments are unique for each of us, but we have all had to change something and make sacrifices somewhere.

With these mandatory schedule and habit changes placed in our lives, what have you noticed? Yes, there will be a ton of negatives associated with this answer, but, dig deep and think about the positives. What are some positives that you currently notice about your daily quarantine life? Maybe you are communicating more and being present; maybe you are taking some much-needed rest; maybe you are moving and organizing…

Write down 3 things you LIKE about your current habits and life in quarantine:

How can you keep these things? How can you make these positives stick?

These are new, forced habits. For these to stay with you, you will need to continue to practice them.

A simple technique for this is to add new habits around old habits that you know you will go back to after quarantine. (This technique is from the book Atomic Habits by James Clear) Example: I will do my At-home workout before my morning coffee on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You now have a time, set days, and a solid goal that, with effort, can become a normal habit!

Create a Goal Sentence like this for each of your positives. They don’t have to be weekly goals, but design ways that you can keep these positives in your life! Your sentences need to be specific with when, where, and how often. Broad goals are great, but we do not commit to them as well as solid, specific plans!

In general, quarantine is very difficult and, for lack of words, it sucks. But, it is also giving us a chance to hit a MASSIVE RESET button.

Here is the moment you’ve been waiting for, here is the reason you needed to make a change, here is your sign… what are you going to do with it?
