"Just Do It" Versus Doing it With Intent

Now, think about YOUR training or gym sessions…

Realistically, there are some lifts, drills, or movements, and even days where you can 100% “Just Do It.” You can zone out, relax, and just move through the motions. Your body understands the movement, you’ve been doing this technique forever, and you don’t need to worry about paying a lot of attention. *Hell, some days I purposefully train myself with movements that I know and love simply so that I CAN just zone out and escape for a moment!

BUT. BIG BUT – HUGE, MASSIVE BUT

IF you are learning a new skill, have previous or current injuries, are training for a goal, or doing a movement that requires technique then YOU NEED TO BE PAYING ATTENTION!! This is not the time to zone out; it’s the time to zone in! Ask yourself questions while you’re training… How does this feel on (injured) area? Is my core engaged? Is my back flat? Did rep 1 feel different from rep 4? Are my feet in the same position they were in last time?... You get the idea.

Now, IF you are working with a Coach or an educated Trainer then you should soak up as much of that information as possible. Do NOT zone out.

We WANT to give you tools.

We WANT to teach you how to move better so that you feel better.

We WANT you to be able to take these tools and perform them on your own & in your daily life.

We WANT to see you succeed!

AND NEED for you to be engaged in the moment!

If you are constantly “just going through the motions” then you are limiting your ability to progress and train to your maximal potential. Now, some of this is the Coach’s job, obviously. We need to get you to buy into our system, understand our why, and have engaged interactions. But some of this is your responsibility and requires you making a commitment to change.

**I realize not everyone wants to train or be engaged in their sessions. I know that some people DO just want to workout, break a sweat, and get it done – big box gyms and classes are perfect for this! This is why they exist!

If you want something to change you’ll have to do something you’ve never done. That’s just how it is. We KNOW this, but putting it into action is an entirely different story.
